An #artbasel trend has been rolling through our instagram feeds for the last few days with Kimye, Pharrell and of course Derek Blasberg, the fashion BFF who is invited to EVERYTHING all in attendance and snapping away.
Yes it’s sort of sickening to watch the glitterati frolicking against sunsets and palm trees in the U.S.A.’s art hotspot, tweeting pictures of Jeff Kooons’ giant shiny easter eggs and kitsch cartoons by (Louis Vuitton favourite collaborative artist) Takahashi Murakami BUT dancing Lenny Kravitz photos aside, for many, this is work. Miami Art Basel is serious stuff.
Among his many talents, Karl Lagerfeld has proved himself rather to be nifty behind the film camera. The Chanel designer has turned his hand to creating various mini-movies for the French fashion house and they’re always utterly dreamy. Cara Delevingne, for one, agrees, telling us backstage at the Chanel show in September that Karl is a masterful director.
‘When you’re doing his films, he has the whole idea in his mind,’ the bushy-browed model told us. ‘I’ve done a few Chanel films but I think he should [direct] more. He’s got such a talent for that.’ And the proof is in the pudding because today, we’ve been got our mitts on KL’s latest venture. And although we can’t see the full film until the Paris-Dallas show, we DO have the trailer and a behind the scenes teaser…
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend – fact. Diamonds are a work of art? Oh yes indeed.
Think of Damien Hirst’s diamond encrusted skull, kings, queens and maharajahs, Mughal emporers and madame Elizabeth Taylor. Need any more excuses to agree? Head to one of Paris’ most glorious museums and cultural hubs (also home to the Chanel show every Paris Fashion Week), Le Grand Palais to behold Cartier’s biggest exhibition to date Cartier: Style and History.

Scottish wunderkind designer Christopher Kane has made all the right moves every step of the way in his career. And now he can add winning the accolade of Womenswear Designer of the Year to his heaving cabinet of achievements! Fending off a challenge from Pheobe Philo (Celine) and Sarah Burton, Kane’s success was resoundingly toasted by the audience.
This evening Christopher was presented with his award by platinum haired fashion-titan Donatella Versace and he said the experience was ‘truly amazing’ and had special thanks for Donatella exclaiming ‘I truly love her’. So do we Mr Kane!
