Did Natalie Portman Wear A Dior Wedding Dress To Marry Benjamin Millepied?
If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to get Grazia Daily giddy it’s a fancy wedding, so we’re v. grateful to Natalie Portman who got hitched this weekend in predictably dreamy style.
The stunnning actress wed her ballet beau Benjamin Millepied (y’know, the hunky dancer she met while filming Black Swan) in a traditional Jewish ceremony on Saturday evening. The couple said their vows after sunset while standing under a classic chuppah (that’s a wedding canopy) at a private residence in the cliff-side California coastal town of Big Sur. Mazel to them! A-list guests reportedly included Macaulay Culkin, Diane Sawyer, Rashida Jones and Ivanka Trump.
But, most importantly, what of the DRESS? Sneaky snaps have emerged (that are strictly forbidden from being published here, grr) and we can confirm it’s as gorgeously feminine as you’d expect. Picture this, if you will: a classic white frock in a ’50s stylee, full-skirted with a nipped in waist and a midi hemline. Yep, no floor-sweepers for our Nat. The sleeves are long and sheer and the design is fuss-free. As for the veil, a waft of chiffon cascaded to her lower back from a floral headband worn over her loose brunette waves. The look was topped off with a classic pair of nude heels [UPDATE: they’re nude flats. FLATS!].
Natalie Portman in vintage Dior at the Oscars 2012
Considering NP is the face of Christian Dior (the latest ad for Diorskin Nude range has just been released, in fact) us Graziettes are placing our bets on the wedding gown coming courtesy of the French fashion house. You’ll remember the actress chose a red strapless dress by Dior for the Oscar Awards earlier this year – the couture number was created way back in 1954 and won rave reviews. So might the blushing bride have repeated the vintage Dior thang for her wedding day? According to the Evening Standard, the ceremony was so relaxed that Natalie didn’t necessarily ‘even buy a new dress’. GASP!
Now, if WE were Natalie, we’d jump at the chance to wear fresh Dior courtesy of designer-of-the-moment Raf Simons. The wedding dress does bear a striking resemblance to the superly feminine Simons-created gowns presented on Dior’s couture catwalk last month (check them out in the gallery above). As Grazia‘s Paula Reed said at the time, the Simons-for-Dior silhouette is simple and buzzing with a youthful energy, making it perfect for a modern day bride, not to mention a Dior muse… Stay tuned for more deets.
UPDATE: Call off the bets! In Touch is reporting that Lady Portman walked down the aisle in a Rodarte creation. ‘Her dress was stunning, not overly showy or revealing,’ says an insider. ‘Very much her own subtle and pretty personal style — she always has a hippie theme, whatever she does.’
