Karl Lagerfeld sketches the Queen for her Diamond Jubilee
As part of his coverage of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee for France 2 television, Karl Lagerfeld has been busy sketching Her Majesty. Joining presenters Marie Drucker and Stéphane Bern, the Chanel designer resumed his role as royal commentator which he began last year during the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
During the broadcast the jack-of-all-trades took to his sketchpad to draw Queen Elizabeth’s flotilla outfit with a few modifications, before posting it on Twitter. Being the creative type that he is, I am sure it was only natural that Lagerfeld would add his own twist on Angela Kelly’s (the Queen’s senior designer) Diamond Jubliee outfit. Throwing in his own observations on how he would have dressed the Queen if given the opportunity, Lagerfeld tweeted: “I would have dressed the Queen in a cape, it would have been prettier than her shawl”. Despite this, it seems Kelly’s creation has attracted nothing but praise so far from the fashion industry.
